Sculptural Inspiration
| Jan's personal journey with clay explores the traditional methods of hand building and wheel throwing, rich with Asian aesthetic influences. Recently, slab construction techniques are of special intrigue, as the fabrication process evolves from a flat sheet of clay. Many of her slab pots display gentle, yet evocative swells contrasting with the flat planes, much like a rural landscape in the Midwest. These creations are embellished with thrown necks, applied decorations and carving to enhance and complete each unique stoneware form. |
